Motivation – Get Some!

June 6, 2014 1 Comment

We all know WHY we should workout; the obvious being to get and stay healthy, to look good and to burn fat. Let’s face it – there are some days when the couch looks much more appealing than your gym clothes. Staying motivated to workout involves so much more than willpower. There are many different tips and tricks one can use to help keep yourself on track; it comes down to finding the ones that work for you.

Believe me when I say, I am no stranger to lack of motivation. I have found myself sitting on the aforementioned couch, stuffing chips in my mouth and thinking about working out beating myself up for not working out. Fortunately, I eventually found my personal motivation, and have not looked back since. I promise that not only does it get easier, it can even become enjoyable! Here are some ways for you to explore to help find your motivation.

Get a Workout Buddy: This is a great way to hold yourself accountable to a daily workout. Eupraxia has a running Free Week pass available here or on our website, for any new members. Any interested friends or family can come in to any class, all week and see what you do here. Help someone else get motivated and keep yourself going too! This makes workouts more fun and can also help keep you motivated through a little competition.

Find your Cause, Find your Why:  You need something that will keep you going long-term. That summer bikini or the beach vacation is often not enough. Look towards things that you hold close to your heart. My personal cause is my family history of cancer. Losing my dad was a huge blow and Eupraxia has helped me understand that our genetics are not out to condemn us. I choose to live my life in the best ways possible to avoid getting cancer.

Make a Public Commitment: Telling people around you about your new lifestyle changes can help keep your commitments. When you know you will have several people a day asking about your new workout schedule, it makes it harder to skip one! Just make sure you tell people that will be supportive of you.

Surround Yourself with Like-Minded People: Eupraxia is a great place to meet new people with common goals! You are trying to change your life for the better, and you don’t want to be around people that are going to bring you down. Spend your time with people that will encourage you and praise your accomplishments and never let the insecurities of someone else bring you down.

Set Goals and Keep Setting Them:  Keep an ongoing list of things you want to accomplish. Start small, build up and when you cross one off, add a new one! Keep your list visible. Consider making a collage or board of some sort so you can see it every day.

Use Technology:  The internet can be a valuable resource for information, tracking goals and reaching out to others. Eupraxia has a great Facebook page we are always using to help keep you motivated. You can even use it to reach out to others or contact us personally with any questions or concerns. We are also available via email ([email protected]) and phone (608-796-0344 / 608-781-4959).

The staff at Eupraxia is always here to answer your questions and concerns! Best of health!
