Spotlight on Dads: Bryan
How many kids do you have and how old are they?
Two kids, Tanner 6 and Alyson 3
Do they have a favorite exercise to do with you?
Kids favorite exercise to do with me is push-ups.
Do they have any favorite healthy foods?
Their favorite healthy meal is shredded chicken on cooked kale with bacon.
How about a favorite treat or “cheat” to enjoy together?
Either dehydrated mangos from the CO-OP or gluten free brown rice tortilla warmed with almond butter and honey
Do you have any tips to get your kids to eat healthier foods or make healthier choices?
Lead by example. Let them see you make healthy choices and get them to try new things all the time. When all else fails add bacon to it.
If you could only do 1 exercise for a quick workout what would it be and why?
As horrible as it sounds if I could only do one exercise for a quick work out I would have to pick pull-ups. Granted they suck when you are doing them but man does it feel good when you are done.
Now for a few thoughtful Qs. (if you don’t have an answer for all of them, that’s fine!)
Have you always been active or had active hobbies? Tell us about them! If not, have your activities changed?
I have always tried to stay active and enjoy many active hobbies. I am kind of an adrenaline junkie. I’ve never been really drawn to team or traditional sports. I enjoy pretty much anything that gets me outdoors, add a little danger and some cool gear and I probably already do it or am figuring out a way to try it. Some of the activities I participate in are snowboarding, telemark skiing, white water kayaking, mountain biking, stand up paddle boarding, I just got the entire family started rock climbing last winter. Even ran my first Tough Mudder last summer. Now working out at Eupraxia I continue enjoy these activities much more. I have prevented a few possible injuries from the training at Eupraxia and just have a lot more energy. As my kids are getting older I have introduced them to many of the activities I enjoy and many we all enjoy to do as a family now. My hope is that I can introduce them into activities they will continue to enjoy throughout their lives.
How you feel living a healthy lifestyle makes you a better dad?
I think living a healthy lifestyle does make me a better dad. Showing my kids a healthy lifestyle gives them the roots to follow in a strong, productive and full filling life. I think it opens up a whole world to them to succeed in.
Has Eupraxia changed any goals you have for your family and children?
I wouldn’t really say Eupraxia has changed my goals for my family and children, I would have to say it has helped to stay more focused and educated on what it is to really be healthy. I would have to say that anyone could agree that a healthy family is a happy family.
What advice do you have for the dads out there who are struggling to get into shape?
To any dads out there struggling to get in better shape, one thing I would say is be a little selfish do it first for yourself first! Use your kids as motivation. Do you want to be the dad sitting watching the action or do you want to get down and have some fun with your kids? I know what I want to do—have fun!!
Proud of you
