How to Time Your Workouts Based On Your Life

March 26, 2016 0 Comments

Alright guys, I’d like to talk to you a little bit about workout timing today. So I was recently talking to one of our members, and he was talking about how he had a day of work, where he was outside and it was a physical day of work, and he just felt super sore and could hardly do his job because his arms were tired from working out. That’s not the purpose of working out. Working out you should feel good, you should feel stronger, feel better, have energy, you should feel good doing your other day things, and it all comes down to timing.

So the way I do it is I base all my workouts around my life. Let’s say I have a very physical weekend plan, where I’m going to go hunting, hardcore hunting, or play in a sports tournament or be very physically active over the weekend. I’ll work out hard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and maybe an easier workout Thursday, Friday I’ll take the day off, and then I’ll go hard Saturday and Sunday, and I’ll be feeling really good Saturday and Sunday. And then Monday, maybe I’ll take Monday off to recover from the weekend, and then back at it Tuesday, Wednesday.

Let’s say I have a seminar planned, or the weather is looking terrible Saturday, Sunday and I know I’m not going to be doing a whole lot outside and just kind of hanging around the house, I’ll go hard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday knowing I have the weekend to recover. If I had a job where some day were really physical, and some days weren’t, if I had a physical day Thursday, I might work out hard Monday, Tuesday, take Wednesday off, do my hard, physical job Thursday, work out Friday or maybe take Friday off, just kind of see how my body feels, and go based on that.

So the whole point of working out is to make life better, to feel good, to have more energy, to feel strong. If you’re working out so hard all the time that your job is miserable, and you’re tired, and over sore, and blah blah blah, kind of back off and let yourself recover a little bit that’s where the timing comes in to play. And the more you do it, the more you’ll figure out what works best for you. One thing I’ve noticed is that when I was younger I could work out twice a day, every day, and it was crazy, I wish I could go back to that, it’s like I was a machine. But now, it takes me a little longer to recover, and it takes me a little longer to get loosened up for each workout. So I gotta kind of cut it back a little bit. Don’t be afraid to take a little time off to recover to get ready for an event you’ve got coming up.

Another thing is let’s say you wake up, and you’re just dead tired exhausted, and you’ve got to drag yourself out of bed to go exercise, sometimes it’s better to just stay in bed. If you’re just dead, your body needs sleep and recovery time, so take a day off or sleep in and try and come in and get a workout in in the afternoon. The big thing is, just realize, working out is supposed to make life better and make you feel better, it’s not supposed to make you so sore that you’re miserable all the time. Just play around, you’ll figure it out, if you need any help with that, or can’t really figure out your timing, just ask me, and we’ll see if we can get it figured out for you.
